Orange County Holistic Pet Food Company Sees Sales Soar During National Pet Food Scare
Costa Mesa-based Pet Chef Express Private-label Pet Food and Delivery Service Proves Popular Among Pet Owners Seeking Peace of Mind
COSTA MESA, Calif. (April 19, 2007) – A Costa Mesa holistic pet food company has seen its sales soar among Southern California pet owners seeking peace of mind during the national pet food scare.
Pet Chef Express, an independent, private-label pet food company and home-delivery service founded by a Newport Beach, Calif., family in 1999, has experienced a double-digit increase in sales during the first quarter of 2007 – with most of that growth resulting from local pet owners looking for an alternative to the more than 50 national cat and dog food brands recalled by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“The most important thing we can offer our customers at a time like this is peace of mind, “ said Pete Bennett, who runs the company with his wife, Karen, and son, Sean. “From the very start, we’ve felt an obligation to our customers to give them the very best pet food, supplies and supplements possible.”
From a family-operated plant in Lisbon, Ohio, unaffected by the FDA recall, Pet Chef Express has its dry and canned dog, cat and bird food made without the artificial colors, chemical preservatives, fillers and sweeteners common in store-bought brands. The food is then stored in the company’s Costa Mesa warehouse before being delivered to customers throughout Orange County, the Inland Empire and Long Beach.
Pet Chef Express Popular with Pet Owners Looking for Peace of Mind
“All of the ingredients in Pet Chef Express food – with the exception of the New Zealand lamb – is raised or grown naturally in the United States,” explained Bennett. “We start with a primary protein – chicken, lamb or farm-raised fish – and then blend entirely natural ingredients including carrots, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress and spinach. We add rice for energy, oatmeal and beet pulp for fiber, essential amino acids, vegetable and fish oil (including Omega-3 and Omega-6), natural minerals, vitamins, Tocopherol and Glucoasamine.”
Bennett is quick to point out that his company doesn’t use artificial colors, dyes, soy or sweeteners; chemical preservatives such as ethoxyquin, BHA or BHT; or crude fiber like peanut hulls, rice bran, soy hulls or wheat bran that can damage the digestive tract.
He says a special attraction for customers is Pet Chef Express’ home delivery service. A four-days-a-week schedule (Orange County on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; Inland Empire on Tuesdays; and Long Beach every other Monday) targets more than 1,200 current customers.
“Beyond the quality of the food, a big reason for our success is our home-delivery service,” he says. “It underscores our personalized commitment to pets – and it enables us to get to know our customers, and their pets, on a uniquely personal basis. In the end, Pet Chef Express is one big family.”
In addition to dog, cat and bird food, Pet Chef Express stocks and delivers 18 varieties of dog treats and biscuits, three varieties of cat treats, and various shampoos, skin and flea treatments, litters and natural supplements.
Customers can use the company’s online contact form at www.petchef.com, or call (949) 515-9600 or (818) 549-1777. The company will deliver free samples.
